The album was released on Chrysalis Records (EMI) and was produced by Mike Chapman. The album was a worldwide hit, peaking at #3 in the UK, #7 in the U.S., #8 in Australia and #11 in Sweden, among chart positions. The album featured major differences in the band’s musical style when compared to their previous work; incorporating musical styles such as jazz, funk, rap, reggae, orchestral and blues to augment the band’s previous content. “Autoamerican” produced two hit singles: “Rapture” and “The Tide Is High”. “The Tide Is High” was written by Howard Berrett, Tyrone Evans and John Holt and was originally released as a 1967 single by The Paragons on Treasure Isle Records. Blondie’s cover version was released as a single in 1980/81 on Chrysalis Records and was produced by Mike Chapman.
